How Sea Berry Was Born
In 2021, Phillip and Nicole Hammond made a decision that would change their lives and the lives of their clients. They purchased a salon in Wierdapark, Centurion — a business previously known as Lush n Brush — with a simple but powerful ambition: to diversify their income through something that truly meant something to people.
They were not simply looking for any business opportunity. Phillip and Nicole wanted to find a venture that delivered genuine personal service to the community — one that made a lasting impact on the real lives of real people. They explored many options, but nothing felt right until the moment they stepped into this salon.
The deciding factor was the team. Sitting in that salon, listening to the buzz of conversations, watching clients leave with brighter eyes and bigger smiles than when they walked in — Phillip and Nicole knew immediately. This was not just a business. This was a family. They did not just want to be part of it; they wanted to give that team every opportunity to keep doing what they love. That spirit remains at the heart of Sea Berry Hair Designs every single day.
Meet the Owners
Phillip Hammond — Co-Owner
Phillip works in labour relations, mostly in a software development capacity. Outside of work, Phillip is extremely passionate about flying and is part of a virtual aerobatics team — if you follow virtual air shows, you may well have spotted him performing. Aside from his aviation passion, Phillip puts his energy into supporting Nicole's ever-ambitious annual gardening projects, an endeavour he 'loves' with great dedication. Like Nicole, he is happiest when the evening ends around a table filled with scratch-made Italian food, a glass of red in hand, and good people close by.
Nicole Hammond — Co-Owner
Nicole has spent her career working with businesses in different capacities, helping them define their brand and their value proposition to truly reach their community and ideal customer base. This is her passion. She brings that same brand clarity and community focus to Sea Berry every day. When she is not working, Nicole gardens — convincing her family every year of the substantial savings they will make from growing their own fresh produce. They have never saved a cent, but they make the most wonderful meals with everything that comes out of the ground. Nicole and Phillip share a deep love of Italian cuisine, spending evenings making pasta from scratch, crafting fresh mozzarella, curing their own pork, and uncorking a beautiful Italian red wine to go with it all.
Patricia — Senior Hairdresser
Patricia has been a hairdresser since 2004 — a path she almost did not take. When her father vetoed her gap year plans, she enrolled at Centurion Academy to learn the art of hair, and she has never looked back or had a single regret. What Patricia loves most about this work is the way a voice over the phone and a name on an appointment book transforms into a real person the moment they walk through the door for the first time — a person with emotions, experiences, and stories worth hearing. She has a particular love for blowing curly hair straight, a process that brings her enormous satisfaction every single time. Outside the salon, Patricia is completely devoted to her two dachshunds, for whom she jokes she works as hard as she possibly can to provide a truly luxurious life. She enjoys reading in her downtime — true stories and crime books are her favourites. One small confession: Patricia is absolutely terrified of heights, which makes her admiration for Phillip's virtual aerobatics all the more impressive.
Madelein — Senior Hairdresser
Madelein has been in the hair industry since 1996, bringing nearly three decades of expertise and passion to every client who sits in her chair. It was not always the plan — in her younger years she considered a career in psychology, drawn by a deep desire to work closely with people. As it turned out, hairdressing gave her everything she was looking for and more. The part of her work that means the most to her is witnessing the transformation — not just of the hair, but of the whole person. Clients who walk in tired, sometimes negative about their appearance, carrying the weight of a long week, leave with relaxed shoulders, warm conversations, and a confidence that is visibly reborn by the time they look in the mirror. That moment never gets old for Madelein. Outside the salon, she enjoys diamond dotting and colour-by-numbers — creative pursuits that, much like her work, are all about revealing something beautiful one careful step at a time.
